Sarthak, whenever you feel why you do what you do - Just know that there are freeloaders like me who depend on your insights so that they can make me come cross as intelligent and a person who knows a lot. This should be enough motivation.

Also, why shouldn't you call out BS when you see it in all its glory? I have seen subpar,. silly and stupid writing being pimped on socials. Why should this crackling piece of writing not get its moment in the sun and maybe, maybe it will help move the needle towards sanity? I would say call out these well padded commentators who used to be so good long ago but are now just using synonyms of 'amazing' to get by and make all of us dumber than we ought to be.

I had a rant ready which I did not post about how the idea of any form of art should be to enrich the patron and not dumb her down. Commentary used to take itself seriously but these days it looks like it is too important a job to be left on commentators only. I would tag all the commentators and post this piece on socials. Do it, I implore you.

Totally ignoring the rest of the post. I do not know how to come to terms with the loss of family members, I would not pretend that I know. I love your writing Sarthak, Hope you never stop.

Thank you for sharing memories of your grandparents.

Reminds me of my great grandmother, and her 108 rudraksha "mala", which would appear when Gavaskar moved into the 90s and continue to be counted off until he was past his 100.

On the commentators, what rational explanation exists for this abysmal state?

I could not be inspired to wake up early, not for an exam, not for Diwali, nothing, except a test match broadcast from Australia, with the sounds of Benaud, Lawry, Greig, and Chappell coming through the television. Their own replacements are disappointing.

And with so much money in the game.

Darn good company, Sarthak. I am sorry for your loss. Your grandmother sounds like a force of nature - strong and talented.

I don’t watch cricket much, but my husband does and I often see him grit his teeth at the commentary, saying stuff like, “why are they there!?”
